Here are some ideas on mounting your Elecraft KX line radios using my Side KX cradles. I have been using RAM Products for years, but due to the cradles having the universal standard AMPS bolt pattern you can use a variety of other mounting platforms like Lido, ProClip and 67 Designs. Please look over each of these vendors products to design the best mounting solution for your individual need. I am transitioning over to 67 Design parts as the carbon fiber is just too sexy!
I have been asked about the mounting options I use in some of my product images or in the Elecraft booth at trade shows. Here is a description of the RAM products I have used with my Side KX cradles. I use the all metal RAM parts, they also make plastic parts for a little less money. I start with the below RAM 1″ Ball and use #10 Stainless bolts 3/4″ long (for the metric word these can be 6mm bolts) and matching Acorn Nuts. RAM makes mounts that will allow a user to attach these radios to a vast variety of surfaces, vehicles and objects.
Please note, I do NOT stock or sell any RAM, Lido, ProClip or 67 Design parts as there are just too many combinations, and I do NOT have the warehouse space needed to support this.
This is a RAM AMPs Base 1″ ball Part # RAM-B-347U
To build the base assembly like the below image for mounting a KX3 and a PX3, you will need the arms and a Tri-Ball mount see images below for part numbers. The weighted base is just a 4″ diameter 1-1/2″” puck of polished Stainless Steel remnent that I had and drilled and tapped it for mounting a RAM Base to. I use this at shows for demonstration of mounting a PX3 over top of a KX3 but this combination can allow the mounting of the PX3 below a KX3 as well.

Another Idea is to eliminate the heavy puck and build the below solution again for mounting a KX3 and a PX3 with a double RAM Ball Base. I have had many customers at trade shows offer ideas on how they plan to mount their KX3/PX3 or KX2 using these parts. Some of the ideas were to mount this base to a wall or even a shelf hanging the radio down and allowing an uncluttered desk top!
